Australia is famous for many things amongst them strange and unpronounceable words like wonglepong and ozenkadnook, great beer and wine, amazing food and seriously awesome adventures….but it is the tropical finery of the mighty and magnificent Great Barrier Reef that beckons every one of us!

The Great Barrier Reef is a 1,240-mile sweep of oceanic paradise off the northeastern coast of Queensland, Australia (and, before we forget to mention it, one of the seven natural wonders of the world). The choices are as endless as the reefy islands themselves so we have taken it upon ourselves to do the hard work and due diligence…

Here Are Our Top 4 Reefer Experiences!
  1. Small frothy islands anchored in the middle of an endlessly blue ocean offer tranquil refuges ranging from bohemian to seriously swanky. The one thing they have in common is that they are private, small and intimate and they scream Robinson Crusoe!
  2. Larger islands host private-island resorts where the whole family can debunk and spend days wallowing, diving, reef walking, birding, boating, snorkeling and totally chilling!
  3. The mainland offers up a smattering of hip hotels and boutique digs, sandwiched between the ocean and the rainforest and the list of activities is as endless as the water to land offerings are astonishing!
  4. Chartering a yacht is probably the ultimate passage to paradise, but this is not for seawary farers nor for tots and toddlers!

Come fact to face with reef creatures like the curious Potato Cod at Lizard Island's famous Cod Hole. Lizard Island is located right on the spectacular Great Barrier Reef, fringed with colorful coral reefs and 24 powdery-white beaches. Sensational diving opportunities abound around this Marine National Park. Snorkel amidst tropical fish and giant clams or charter a boat for some exhilarating game fishing. Try bushwalking, sailing, a glass bottom boat trip, or perhaps indulge in the serenity and relaxation of a pampering treatment at the luxurious Azure Spa.
