Year Round Except July

Australia is an all-year-round destination, but during the summer, December to February, it is hot in Western Australia, Northern Territory and Queensland. At the Great Barrier Reef, most rain falls in January and February. In northern Queensland and parts of the Northern Territory, roads may flood during the 'green' season, January to March. The ski season takes place during June to October in New South Wales, Victoria and Tasmania. Australia's seasons are the opposite of those of the Northern Hemisphere.

Owners & Hosts

Alan and Patricia Payne run this family owned business operating off the West Coast of the Eyre Peninsula South Australia, in the Great Australian Bight. "Our adventures with the marine mammals of Baird Bay started in late 1992 by chance, with the first approach being made by a young Australian Sea Lion inquisitive of what we were and what we were doing, which consequently brought this young mammal close to our boat while we were fishing."
Well known as the place to swim with sea-lions, Baird Bay is located in the Southern Outback on the shallow western arm of Anxious Bay, on South Australia's Eyre Peninsula. A secluded inlet on the remote coast of South Australias Eyre Peninsula Baird Bay is home to a host of marine birds as well as a pod of Bottlenose dolphins and a rare colony of Australian sea lions.
In this beautiful coastal setting, Allan and Trish Payne have made their home and established themselves as experts on the sea lions and dolphins. With years of research and interaction, Allan and Trish are able to offer their guests a rare introduction to the natural world of Sea-lions and dolphin. Accommodation is in two stunning lodges, built of rammed earth to blend beautifully with the colors of the beach. They are furnished to the highest standard of contemporary luxury. All rooms have views, from the big sliding doors and there are areas for outdoor living. Other activities include day-trips to local islands, fishing expeditions, four wheel drive excursions to the local beaches and national parks plus visits to aquaculture industries such as oyster farms which are famous to the region.
